ECONOMICS OF TRADE-OFF BETWEEN UREA NITROGEN AND POULTRY LITTER FOR RICE PRODUCTION AgEcon
Govindasamy, Ramu; Cochran, Mark J.; Miller, David M.; Norman, Richard J..
This paper identifies optimal combinations of nitrogen in the form of urea, fresh litter and composted litter for rice production. Traditional cost minimization techniques using data from experimental results conducted at three sites in Arkansas during 1991 have been employed. Comparisons between different scenarios indicate that the trade-off between the use of poultry litter and urea nitrogen depends on such factors as soil fertility, the yield response to litter application and the relative prices of nitrogen and litter. The use of litter is more economical at high target yields than at low target yields.

Further processing of estimation results: Basic programming with matrices AgEcon
Watson, Ian.
Rather than process estimation results in other applications, such as spreadsheets, this article shows how easy it is to process them inside Stata by undertaking some basic programming with matrices. Spreadsheet visualization helps define the task, but the steps are all core Stata: macros, loops, and matrices. The programming challenge is only a modest one for novices, while the benefits of converting do-files into ado programs can be considerable.

Importance of the nutritional status for the interpretation of nuclear medicine examinations BABT
Moura,Egberto Gaspar de; Passos,Magna Cottini Fonseca.
Malnutrition is very prevalent in the Third World, but still in developing Countries and is found in certain communities in developed Countries. Several laboratories examinations are affected by malnutrition. Recently, gestational or neonatal malnutrition were considered to contribute to the development of chronic diseases in adulthood, this phenomena was named programming or metabolic imprinting. Similar consideration were suggested for Nuclear Medicine examinations. Here we review the literature about this aspect and present our own data showing changes in biodistribution of a radiopharmaceutical compound in different animal models of adult malnutrition or caused by maternal malnutrition programming.

Optimal management of a flammable forest providing timber and carbon sequestration benefits: an Australian case study AgEcon
Spring, Daniel; Kennedy, John O.S.; Mac Nally, Ralph.
In deciding to keep or fell a forest stand given its age, the risk of loss of timber through wildfire is an important consideration. If trees also have value from sequestration of carbon, another effect of fire is the unplanned loss of stored carbon. Factors affecting the decision to keep or fell trees, and how much to spend on fire protection, are investigated using stochastic dynamic programming, using carbon sequestration in stands of mountain ash in Victoria as a case study. The effect of treating sawlogs as a permanent carbon sink after harvesting is explored.

Programmable GLM: Two user-defined links AgEcon
Guan, Weihua; Gutierrez, Roberto G..
With the release of Stata 7, the glm command for fitting generalized linear models underwent a substantial overhaul. Stata 7 glm contains an expanded array of variance estimators, regression diagnostics, and other enhancements. The overhaul took place to coincide with the release of Hardin and Hilbe (2001). With the new glm came a modular design that enables users to program customized link functions, variance functions, and weight functions to be used if Newey-West covariance estimates are desired. Because cases requiring customized link functions are the more prevalent in the literature, only those are considered here. We give two examples where a nonstandard link function is required: the relative survival model of Hakulinen and Tenkanen (1987) and a...

Sistema para la planeación y diseño de obras de conservación de suelo y agua. Colegio de Postgraduados
Aguirre Salado, Olimpya Talya.

Treatment with Ilex paraguariensis (yerba mate) aqueous solution prevents hepatic redox imbalance, elevated triglycerides, and microsteatosis in overweight adult rats that were precociously weaned BJMBR
de Oliveira,E.; Lima,N.S.; Conceição,E.P.S.; Peixoto-Silva,N.; Moura,E.G.; Lisboa,P.C..
Early weaning (EW) leads to overweight, visceral obesity, hyperleptinemia, and insulin resistance in adulthood. Treatment with Ilex paraguariensis (yerba mate) improves obesity and insulin resistance in these animals. Here, we evaluated the effects of chronic treatment with yerba mate on the redox balance and liver morphology of overweight early-weaned rats. To induce EW, we wrapped the dams with bandages to interrupt milk access during the last 3 days of lactation. Control pups (C) had free access to maternal milk for the full 21 days of lactation. On postnatal day (PN) 150, EW offspring were subdivided into the EW+YM group, which received the aqueous extract of yerba mate (1 g/kg bw by gavage once a day for 30 days) and the EW group, which received water...
